Free Stuff!

Free is almost always a good thing. Not so good if it's junk that someone is trying to Freecycle in order to save themselves the cost of taking it to the dump, but good when it's coming from Amazon. They are currently offering three free games - Build-a-lot, Jewel Quest II, and The Scruffs.

Just in case Akinator wasn't distraction enough.

I had a look at the free stuff...I thought reading online newspapers was bad...I can imagine myself if I were to get that building thingy...I'd never finish a book again...

Speaking of free things...I came across this yesterday.

There's an English museum called the Victorian & Albert Museum
AKA the V&A

They call themselves a design museum, but with seven miles of floor space (I have not even remotely seen the whole place)they are more like a high class good-junk deposit. Endless stuff...it's rather overwhelming, but online now they have professional images of many of their treasures. After signing up you can download for free large high resolution digital images of their stuff. You can't use them to make money, but you can have them printed off and hang on your wall...or as computer wallpaper or use in research or whatever.

Speaking of dolls...they have these two amazing dolls made around 1715) it's a man and wife (these were very expensive toys for grownups) Lord Clapham (the man) wears an exact replica of what a man would have worn when he was made...from his shirtsleeves down to his coat, purse, money and hat...for the costume alone (he also has a dressing gown) he's amazing! His wife is simiarly atired as a Lady would have from chemise to stays to gown plus her own dressing gown and chair etc...she even has garters around her knees over her stockings...so cute. You can download lovely pictures of them for free! Along with all sorts of other lovely pictures. I had to have a download of John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester...the picture at the V&A is one of my favorite of him. You don't know it by looking at the picture, but he's already going blind...he'd dying of alcoholic poisoning. He looks sad...weary as he was of being the King's monkey. Charles II was known to show up at Rochester's personal abode (one instance happened while Rochester was having friends to dinner) and demand to be entertained because he was bored! Rochester was a very naughty man, but he was very beautiful and witty. He's Agent 1680!
